Laboratory and computer exercises

There are three compulsory computer exercises, i.e. one on solving the diffusion equation, one related to Monte Carlo simulations and one on finite-element simulations. Furthermore, there will be two compulsory laboratory exercises, i.e. one in Imaging in Scattering Media and one in Time-Resolved Diffuse Reflectance.

Make sure to bring pen, notebook, LTH login, lab instructions and other necessary literature to the lab. It is also a good idea to bring a USB-stick. Make sure you are well prepared.

The rooms for the computer and laboratory exercises will be announced during the course.

Computer exercises

The following scientific publication by Prahl et al., in a simple way describing the principles of Monte Carlo simulation of light in turbid media, is also highly recommended. This file was also published on internet: prahl89.pdf

Laser safety film

To make sure that you have safe routines inside a laser lab, you must follow the laser safety course in Canvas (link).

Signing up

You have to sign up for these classes. The procedures will be explained at the lectures.

Preparations

It is very important to prepare well the laboratory exercises: read the instructions and do the preparation exercises. If you are not prepared you might not be allowed to do the lab.

It is often a good idea to bring a USB-stick to the laborational exercise.

Report

In this course, separate reports are only required for the two laboratory exercises, but not for the computer exercises. If you use text or figures that you have not produced yourself it must be clear to the reader that it is not your text or figure and what the source is.
