Laser development project is granted!

The laser development project, entitled Developing a high power single frequency laser concept enabling improved high fidelity quantum gate operations is supported by The Fund of the Walter Gyllenberg Foundation.
Abstract of this project:
High fidelity quantum gate operation plays a key role in developing quantum computers. We are in an international cooperative project SQUARE (scalable rare-earth ion quantum computing nodes), which is aiming to build scalable quantum computers using rare-earth ions doped into solids. Developing a high power single frequency laser is highly desired to improve the single qubit gate fidelity. This application is motivated to develop a compact, low cost, high power and high frequency resolution laser using VECSELs (optically pumped vertical external cavity surface-emitting lasers). Moreover, this new concept could also be extended to other applications.
