Projects

The students will in the very beginning of the course assign to a project. Two students should work together on each project. This project is a central part throughout the course. According to the course description, each student is supposed to spend 80 hours on the project. At the end of the course, each project will be presented both in a written report and as an oral presentation for the other students participating. The students are supposed to perform literature searches on the specific topic of interests for their projects. In every project description,  please find suggestions on relevant key-words for the literature searches. It is advised that the students should use at least two databases of interest, Web of Science and PubMed. The use of the function My Course Library will facilitate an efficient use of the resources at Lund University Library, and is thus strongly recommended. Before copying and ordering more than a few articles, you are welcome to consult the course leader for review of the material.  Much of the material can also be found as PDF-files on internet. We also host a fairly good library of scientific articles in the medical group at Department of Physics. Again, consult the course leader to use this resource.

The final report should be carefully written (addressed to someone just starting the course) and include Abstract, Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and References. The references should be in a chosen journal format.

Each project team is supposed to give a 15 minutes long oral presentation for the other students participating in the course. The date for the oral presentations will be scheduled at the first lecture.

The project will be graded based on both the written report and the oral presentation. The grades will be translated to points to the written examination. The grades of the project will be based the quality of the work performed and of the presentation. Consider especially to understand and present the scientific problem and what has been done solve it. Another important aspect the course leader will especially considered in grading the project is the quantity and quality of own data from measurements and/or simulations to provide insight into the problem.

If you need help within you project, please consult us during the question hours or send an e-mail. Please avoid unannounced visits.
